In the Bag—Impromptu Activity. Students draw their topic or question from the bag and give a quick speech, 2
minutes or less, to the class based on personal knowledge and experience. Decorate a bag with the words "In
The Bag" - be creative. Copy phrases and questions on strips of paper and place them in the bag.

Describe your most cherished pet.
If you could donate one million dollars to a charity, who would you give it to?
Quilt of Many Colors. Ask the students to write a quote or phrase or paragraph that best tells something about
themselves as individuals or their beliefs. Provide examples by have examples of various quotes and phrases and
discussing the meanings behind them.. When students have completed the task, have them write their creation
on a 6” square of construction paper or card stock, lightly- or brightly-colored . Ask them to add their signature
and decorate it with symbols representing themselves. Allow students to present their square to the class and
post it on the wall to create the "quilt." Add small black strips to make a border between the squares and a frame
around the quilt. Display the quilt in the hallway or on a classroom wall.
